Bib - No OCLC
What is this?
If you use OCLC as your main cataloging utility, your bib records will have OCLC numbers in 035 fields marked with an (OCoLC) prefix.
When is this trouble?
If most of your records have OCLC records, the ones that do not will not be as easily discoverable for interlibrary loan (if your holdings are not set there).
If you run reports of OCLC numbers for participation in shared print programs, materials without OCLC numbers will not be included in ther program.
If you use OCLC holdings to aid in acquisitions, you may end up re-purchasing materials because their holdings were not set in OCLC.
Exceptions
You may not want OCLC records for all materials, such as brief local records for circulating keys or equipment.
You may not want OCLC records for non-circulating collections.
How to Find
