LC Call Numbers - Copy Number
What is this?
Many libraries use copy numbers to enumerate multiple copies of resources with copy numbers; this is typically recorded in the item record, not in the holdings record.
Where is the trouble?
Some call numbers in the catalog may include a copy number, including
the string Copy
, copy
, Cop.
,
cop.
, or c.
F457.B79 B8 Copy 2
Z921 .E37 1949 cop.2
NA521.T9 S9 c.2
This copy number as part of the call number in the holdings record may cause issues especially if the library owns multiple copies of that resource.
Exceptions
These patterns may also show up in correctly formed call numbers, especially
those that include abbreviations like sec.
, etc.
,
fasc.
