LC Call Numbers - Dot Space Letter
What is this?
One pattern that can show up in LC call numbers in catalogs is a dot followed by a space followed by an uppercase letter, like this:
TL509. B67 1972
D659.F8. S6
GN419.15 . D46 2007
Why is this trouble?
This is usually just slightly messy but may cause inconsistency in labeling and confusion in shelving, like this:
GN GN 419.15 419.15 .D46 . 2007 D46 2007
Exceptions
Some types of enumeration or notation might create fine call numbers matching this pattern:
Z689.5.U6 A23 2002 Spec. Issue
JX1971.5 .A6 ser. A
M1015 .P2 Cmaj. D8 1974
