Holdings - Subfield Nothing
What is this?
Subfields in MARC records start with a subfield delimiter followed by a subfield code, usually a lowercase letter or number. If a subfield delimiter is followed by a space, or appears at the end of the field, that is incorrect.
When is this trouble?
This pattern may be the sign of a typo, where somebody has either not typed the subfield code or typed a space before it. This will not be interpreted in the system as intended, for example:
- A call number with a broken subfield may appear incomplete in the online catalog or on the spine label.
- A public note with a broken subfield may not be displayed in the online catalog.
