LC Call Numbers - Ell Nine

What is this?

One pattern that can show up in LC call numbers in catalogs is an lowercase L followed by the number 9, like this:

Why is this trouble?

A call number with this pattern very likely has a publication date starting with 19 where the starting 1 was recorded as a lowercase L.

A call number with this pattern may also have a cutter starting with L that was somehow recorded with a lowercase letter.

How to Find

If you are in Alma, there is an analysis to search for this issue in the "Looking for Trouble" folder. Go to the "LC Call Numbers" folder and look for the "Ell Nine" analysis.

If you can search or filter your call numbers by regular expression, use the expression /l9/.
