LC Call Numbers - Punctuation End
What is this?
One pattern that can show up in LC call numbers in catalogs is when the call number ends with a punctuation mark like a slash, apostrophe, semicolon, quote mark, or slash:
PS648.S3 N430.
GP 1.2:Se 1/
Q172 .K6/
(should beQ172 .K67
)
Why is this trouble?
It is not standard to end the call number field with a mark of punctuation, so this may affect parsing, searching, and display of the call number.
A call number ending with punctuation may be a call number from some other scheme (such as a SuDoc number) incorrectly marked as an LC call number.
A call number with this pattern might include a number that was accidentally read as a punctuation mark.
