Holdings - Bad Indicators

What is this?

Holdings records specify the call number type in the first indicator, and the shelving indicator in the second indicator like this, with no other values being valid:

  • # - No information provided
  • 0 - Not enumeration
  • 1 - Primary enumeration
  • 2 - Alternative enumeration

When is this trouble?

If indicators contain invalid values, the record may not be interpreted correctly in the catalog and may affect reports.

If indicators contain invalid values, it may also be an indicator of other corruption or incorrect values in the holdings record.

How to Find

If you are in Alma, there is an analysis to search for this issue in the "Looking for Trouble" folder. Go to the "Holdings" folder and look for the "Bad Indicator 1" and "Bad Indicator 2" analyses.
