Item - Enum but no Desc
What is this?
Item records in Alma have separate fields for Enumeration (like
v.1) and Chronology (like 1990), and uses these to
build a description of that item (like v.1(1990)). That
generated description is stored in a separate Description field which can
be modified.
When is this trouble?
If the Description field is blank but there is information in Enumeration, that information may not have made it onto the book's label.
If the enumeration is part of the item's call number, it should be in Enumeration and Description. If it is not part of the call number (like a volume's numbering in a series that is not classed together), it should not be in Enumeration or Description.
If the enumeration is already part of the call number included in the holdings record (like in a series that is analyzed and classed together), that numbering should not also be in Enumeration or Description.
How to Find
If you are in Alma, there is an analysis to search for this issue in the "Looking for Trouble" folder. Go to the "Items" folder and look for the "Enum no Desc" analysis.
